New Balance make some of the best trainers and running shoes on the market - but what about their golf offerings?

Well, they're keen to get involved because in 2024 they have launched no fewer than 11 (eleven!) models in 27 (twenty-seven!) different colourways.

So how do we go about comparing? We've got our hands - or feet - on two of the most popular options in the range - so let's do a little head-to-head.

First up, here are the contenders: the New Balance 997 spiked model versus the New Balance 574 Greens V2 spikeless shoes. Both are super good looking, mega comfortable, and waterproof. So how do they differ? And which one should you be putting in your wardrobe this summer? Let's dive in...

It features an athletically styled waterproof microfibre leather upper to keep your feet dry in the elements.

The midsole design, which they call 'Abzorb', is a superior blend of foam midsole cushioning and compression set, featuring a 10mm drop. It is lightweight and provides premium responsiveness. Also equipped with a revolutionary foam compound, it delivers an ultra-soft and responsive feel for even more comfort without sacrificing durability or stability.

New Balance has constructed the outsole with a durable rubber compound for long-lasting performance, complete with pressure-mapped colour zones to highlight key performance areas.

A great option to wear in everyday life as well on the golf course, the fashion-forward shoe comes in white/navy, grey/navy and grey/orange colour combinations to suit tastes and style preferences.

New Balance golf shoes: The Conclusion

Both the spiked and spikeless models are incredibly comfortable - and if you want something that is more casual without sacrificing in performance then New Balance are ticking all the right boxes.

As is so often the case when comparing spiked and spikeless golf shoes, you will find the 997 is more supportive - particularly around the arch of the foot - while the 574 exceeds in the comfort category.

But the real difference comes in the traction control. If you are someone who uses the ground a lot in your golf swing, then the 997 would be the best option as it helps stabilise the foot when resisting twisting.

But while the 574 can't offer you that level of support, it is still a great performing shoe and perfect for those summer rounds where you want something to wear to and from the course as well as on it.

Looks-wise, there isn't much between them. I love that NB haven't tried to reinvent anything. They've just taken their impossibly popular trainers and packed in some golf tech. Perfect.
