You might have been watching the first few events of LIV Golf this year and thinking you recognise some of the threads on display.

That’s because three of the teams competing in Greg Norman’s league have put pen to paper with a popular British golf apparel brand.

Most notably, Fireballs GC, featuring captain Sergio Garcia, Abraham Ancer, Eugenio Chacarra and David Puig, will be wearing Stuburt clothing for the 2024 campaign and beyond.

Torque GC, which sees Joaquin Niemann lead Mito Pereira, Sebastian Munoz and Carlos Ortiz, and Stinger GC, the South African foursome of Louis Oosthuizen, Charl Schwartzel, Branden Grace and Dean Burmester, are the other teams signed to a multi-year contract.

Traditionally a footwear brand and founded by Ralph Stubbs and Frederick Burt in 1860, Stuburt has a rich history in the golf landscape. Tony Jacklin wore the shoes in the 1980s, while Graeme McDowell and Darren Clarke won their only major championships to date in Stuburts. Elsewhere, England’s World Cup-winning team of 1966 wore Stuburt football boots.

And now marks a new chapter in Stuburt’s timeline.

Stuburt’s designers worked closely with each of the captains – Garcia, Niemann and Oosthuizen – to produce a complete on-course apparel collection for each of their teams, including polos shirts, trousers, raingear, lifestyle apparel, and various accessories. There will be at least seven different colour options for each team’s products, as well as options for children, too.

Garcia, the 2017 Masters champion and long-term adidas ambassador before joining LIV, said: “The ability to co-design and infuse our team DNA into the Stuburt products was key to ensuring our fans were wearing our heart on their sleeve.

“We can’t wait to see fans in our gear repping Fireballs GC across the world.”

Niemann, meanwhile, said he wants Torque GC’s fans “to feel closer to us” and that this partnership “will allow them to do that”.

He added: “As the Latin American team, we have fans in Mexico, Chile, Colombia and all across Central and South America, so this is a very exciting opportunity for Torque to continue building its global brand presence.”

Oosthuizen was also focused on his homeland. “When choosing an apparel partner, it was very important for us to choose a company that was able to deliver to our fans in South Africa,” he said. “As the only LIV Golf team representing the continent of Africa, Stuburt’s global distribution allows our fans to proudly represent who they are.”
