TaylorMade Qi10 fairway woods review

2023 was a big year for TaylorMade’s woods on tour. They’ll be hoping the Qi10 can help continue that success. From my review of the TaylorMade Qi10 range, I think they’ll be a big hit.

The First Look

These aren’t massively different from the drivers, with the crown sitting flush to the face, but that’s a good thing, as they both look great. There’s a noticeably large face area, which combined with the head shapes and carbon crown, look very clean at address.

There’s three head options with the Qi10 Max, Qi10 and Qi10 Tour. These range from extremely forgiving (Max), faster and longer (Tour) and a combination of both (Qi10). All in all, these look great.

The Tech

Each TaylorMade Qi10 fairway wood has a uniquely optimised face design, focused around maximising ball speed across the face. TaylorMade’s engineers have used iterative computer simulations to determine the shape and thickness of each area in the face, to properly maximise the COR area around where golfers are most likely to strike the ball with each fairway model. The Qi10, Qi10 Max and Qi10 Tour fairways have a clean new look with the new Infinity Crown that optimises performance. Although it looks great, this new design to reshape the club also brings performance benefits. It shifts more weight lower in the club head to maintain high inertia with a slightly enlarged face for better ball speed.

The Qi10 fairways also feature a Thru-Slot SpeedPocket laser-etched topline, which helps maintain speed on mishits, particularly those low on the face. The V Steel sole design improves turf interaction and versatility with internal mass pads that have been designed for balanced performance. The weight has been split between low-forward and low-back to produce a hot trajectory which delivers a blend of forgiveness and distance.

The Qi10 Max fairway has been designed with extreme forgiveness and playability in mind. It’s larger from front-to-back in shape which allows for increased inertia. This is designed to deliver more stability at impact with a shallower head shape, with extreme levels of MOI allowing for higher launch and forgiveness across the face. The Qi10 Max fairway has an ultra-high MOI construction, combining low CG projection with a confidence-inspiring 200cc head. Mass pads have been designed for maximum forgiveness with the weight moved to the extreme low back, making this fairway easy to hit.

The Qi10 Tour is compact in shape with a titanium head that frees up additional mass for precise CG placement. A 50g sliding weight sits on the sole and a 2° loft sleeve can be adjusted to optimise ball flight. The TSS weight enables precise customisation for pinpoint swing weighting, combining proven TaylorMade innovations like multi-material titanium carbon construction, laser topline alignment and Twist Face.

The bunkered Verdict

Fairway woods aren’t something I carry, but after my TaylorMade Qi10 fairway woods review, that might need to change.

The Qi10 Tour is like a rocket launcher. It has multiple settings in such a nice compact shape. It could be a great secondary option from the tee, but could be an option for better players who are going for a par-5 in two. I really like the way it sits behind the ball at address and I loved the speed off the face.

The Qi10 is very good, I can see a lot of tour players gaming this, along with a lot of average players. It’s great behind the ball, with a slightly larger profile than the LS. That inspires confidence, without taking away playability. One thing that stood out was its forgiving nature on off-centre hits, where distance is maintained. A solid option.

The Qi10 Max is possibly the easiest fairway wood I’ve hit so far. The 200cc head is big but makes you feel like you can’t miss. The forgiveness across the face is brilliant so your dispersion from mishits is excellent. The Qi10 Max is a great club and again could be used by golfers of all levels from low to high handicappers.
