1. Catriona Matthew wins her first LET title

It’s appropriate that Catriona Matthew should captain Europe in this year’s Solheim Cup at Gleneagles, given that it was the scene of her first Ladies European Tour victory. The then 27-year-old Scot won the McDonald’s WPGA Championship in August 1998, finishing five strokes clear of Helen Alfredsson and Laura Davies. It was to be the first of six LET victories for Matthew and helped her qualify for her first Solheim Cup the following month.
