Assuming Matt Fitzpatrick is in the fold once again, Alex could team up with his brother and be the first siblings to compete together since the Molinari’s in 2010.

The 24-year-old made a late push for a place on Luke Donald’s team, spearheaded by a T17 finish at The Open in July.

Fitzpatrick has enjoyed his best season to date having not missed a cut since May, while winning on the Challenge Tour.

The Englishman told bunkered.co.uk last month that he is ‘very hungry to achieve’ his Ryder Cup goal.

He said: “I’ve got my eyes set on New York in two years’ time, and hopefully I keep playing good golf and we’ll see where that takes me.”
