Alfred Dunhill Championship preview

The stage is set for the penultimate event of the Opening Swing on the DP World Tour, as the Alfred Dunhill Championship takes place in South Africa.

Sponsored by billionaire businessman Johan Rupert, the event shares a new with its links counterpart in Scotland, the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

Rupert also owns Leopard Creek Country Club, where this week’s event will take place and it is set to offer a shorter South African test.

It’s around 1,000 yards shorter than Blair Atholl, which tested players in the nations’ Open Championship last week.

Designed by Gary Player, Leopard Creek borders a national park, so don’t be surprised to hear or see an array of wildlife throughout the coverage.

Home players have a strong record in this event, claiming eight of the last ten renewals, with LIV golfer Charl Schwartzel the most decorated winner boasting four triumphs.

Adam Scott and Justin Rose have hoisted this trophy, too, and it looks set to be another tight contest with Louis Oosthuizen and Co. involved.

The bunkered Bet

Christiaan Bezuidenhout 16/1

One of the many home heroes in the field this week, Bezuidenhout relishes coming back here. The three-time DP World Tour winner has remarkably consistent form figures when teeing it up in South Africa and he won this event by four strokes in 2020. He finished ninth and 17th, respectively, in the last two weeks, too, so arrives back for another tilt at this championship in form.
