Searching for his maiden major victory, Cam Smith found himself involved in a truly bizarre incident during the second round of the US PGA at Southern Hills.
The Aussie, who finished second to Scottie Scheffler at The Masters a month ago, was on the second tee when he sliced his drive well right and onto the adjacent seventh fairway.
Nothing particularly unusual about that… apart from the fact that it hit fellow player Aaron Wise on the head as he came up the hole.

The incident was missed by the television cameras but commentators on ESPN+ Featured Groups coverage discussed it.
They reported that Wise looked “okay” after the incident and that he was standing up and looking through his yardage book.
As he cut through onto the seventh to find his ball, it was obvious that Smith – who loudly shouted ‘fore’ after his drive – had no idea that he had hit Wise.

Noticeably, Wise didn’t bring it to his attention either, presumably looking out for the Aussie’s best interests and knowing that The PLAYERS champion still had a whole round in front of him.
The Fried Egg Twitter account shared what footage was available from the incident…

After finishing his round on the ninth, Wise was seen walking through the scoring area with an ice pack pressed to his head.
