It’s a trip to Torrey Pines this week on the PGA Tour for the Farmers Insurance Open.
Both the North and South courses will play host to the event, with the opening two rounds split over both of them. The South will be the venue for the weekend, potentially one of the most iconic courses in the USA.
It has been home to two US Opens in recent memory, the most recent one won by Jon Rahm and the other won by Tiger Woods in a playoff over Rocco Mediate. If you remember that, you’ll recall the dramatic closing par-5 on the South, something to look out for this week.
Enough about that, though, there’s plenty to get our teeth into this week. This isn’t an elevated event for the PGA Tour, and it goes up against a Rolex Series week on the DP World Tour, but there’s still star power teeing it up.
Last year, Luke List defeated Will Zalatoris in a playoff to win his first PGA Tour event, at the 207th time of asking. He joined a list of winners that includes former world No.1s Jason Day and Jon Rahm. Clearly the Spaniard likes this part of the world, and that should worry everyone else in the field.
One thing to look out for this week is that it’s a Wednesday start and a Saturday finish, due to American football taking place on the Sunday.
Farmers Insurance have sponsored the event since 2010. Before that, it was known as the Buick Invitational.

Taylor Montgomery
The 27-year-old has been flying recently. Montgomery has finished in the top-20 in eight of his last nine PGA Tour events, including a fifth place at last week’s American Express. He might not be a household name like others in the field, but he’s performing like one.
