LIV golf Tulsa preview

The FedEx Cup Playoffs are upon us.

The $75million series offers players a chance to end their season on a high as they battle for trophies, huge bonuses and crucial Ryder Cup points.

This year’s FedEx Cup works slightly differently, however, with only 70 players, rather than 125, competing across three events with a chance to become the 2023 champion.

And the FedEx Cup St Jude Championship, formerly known as the St Jude Classic, is the first of the trio of tournaments that will bring an end to the PGA Tour season.

Will Zalatoris won this event last time round, defeating European Ryder Cup hopeful Sepp Straka in the third hole of a playoff to secure his maiden title on the circuit.

The American, of course, will not be in the field to defend his title as he continues to recover from the back injury that has ruled him out of almost the entire campaign.

But 70 of the world’s best players who have secured their spot in the PGA Tour’s postseason will peg it up in the first FedEx Cup tournament.

FedEx St. Jude Championship betting tips

Here’s who the bookies fancy to shine in the first playoff event…

Scottie Scheffler 7/1

Rory McIlroy 8/1

Jon Rahm 8/1

Patrick Cantlay 16/1

Xander Schauffele 18/1

Viktor Hovland 18/1

The bunkered bet

Sepp Straka 66/1

The Austrian was beaten in a playoff last year on his debut at TPC Southwind but has since won at the John Deere Classic and is playing the best golf of his career. His game clearly suits the Memphis course and a victory would lock him in as a European Ryder Cup certainty. There is plenty of value in Straka this week.

Please gamble responsibly.
