If Dunsmuir thought a public dressing-down could get Poulter to smarten up his act, he had another thing coming. The very next day, the Englishman turned up at Royal Troon in a pair of plus-fours. The motivations for this, though, would have been hard to take issue with – Poulter slipped into the breecks in tribute to his hero, the late Payne Stewart. “He was a great golfer and a major winner and I thought it would be nice to dress like him,” he explained. :If he was here today I am sure he would have approved because it is meant as a compliment to him.” Nice touch.
