Phil Mickelson and Brandel Chamblee spent much of the weekend embroiled in a nasty Twitter back and forth, prompting the six-time major champion to declare: “I’m done taking his s**t quietly.”

The pair traded barbs following a lengthy post by Chamblee in which he outlined his opposition to the LIV Golf League, with which Mickelson is now aligned.

“The farrago of whataboutisms that inevitably accompanies any discussion on sportswashing, attempts, in answering a condemnation with an accusation, to impugn the credibility of the accuser and to distract from having to deal with the complexities of the question,” wrote long-time LIV critic Chamblee. “Much like sportswashing, its sole goal is to obfuscate.”

That prompted Mickelson to hit back.

Beginning his tweet with a facepalm emoji, he wrote: “This guy. His network covers Russia and China Olympics. His PGA Tour funds an ENTIRE Tour in China. ‘You. Cannot. Be. Serious?.’ John McEnroe.”

Alerted to Mickelson’s comment, tour-pro-turned-Golf-Channel-analyst Chamblee replied: “Phil is welcome to come on the Live From set at the US Open to discuss the merits of playing for scary MFers, as he called them, and the Billy Walters book that comes out August 22… but my guess he’s too soft to come on and debate.”

It appears that both men then blocked each other – but Phil wasn’t done yet.

“Poor Brandel,” he wrote. “He can rip apart me and countless others but as soon as someone shows his ignorance he can’t handle it. He’s softer now than he was as a player.”

After another former tour pro Mark Lye offered his support – saying that Mickelson taking on Chamblee on the Golf Channel would result in “a bigger ass kickin than Trump gave CNN” – Phil responded: “I’d love to do it on another network.

“I don’t want to help golf channel in ANY way or help him. He hasn’t faced anyone who has nothing to lose and is sick of his endless attacks. He doesn’t deal well with rebuttals or unrehearsed debates (or tweets).”

In yet another Twitter reply, he added: “Brandel sits on his Golf Channel set tearing everyone apart with no one challenging him. I’m done taking his $h!t quietly. I know it’s stooping to his low level but the 37th personal attack is the last one without responding.”
