Solheim Cup

The Solheim Cup showpiece is almost upon us.

It’s one of the greatest weeks in golf and this year’s contest at Finca Cortesin in Andalucia couldn’t be more finely poised.

Solheim legend Suzann Pettersen’s Team Europe side are going for an unprecedented three-peat as the match heads to Spain for the very first time.

Pettersen names four wildcard picks

The tide has turned in favour of the blue-and-gold in recent years and the Europeans may never get a better chance to claim a historic hat-trick with a formidable team led by the fiery Pettersen on home soil.

Celine Boutier, Charley Hull and Leona Maguire will spearhead a European team bursting with talent, experience and youthful experience.

But beware of the wounded animal. Stacy Lewis’ Team USA side is packed with major winners and veterans of this battle and they will be desperate to stop the rot and silence the Spanish crowd.

It’s set to be an epic showdown, which takes place from September 22-24.

Top points scorer

Charley Hull 12/1

There is value in the top scorer market across both teams and Charley Hull looks poised to shine at Finca Cortesin. At just 27, Hull is already a wily veteran of this contest and will be making a sixth appearance in Andalucia, providing valuable experience to the European cause. But she is also playing the best golf of her career, with runner-up finishes in her last two majors and another near miss on the LPGA Tour. This looks like the perfect storm for Hull to emerge as the star player of the Solheim Cup.
