Suzann Pettersen has named Scotland’s Gemma Dryburgh among her wildcards for the Solheim Cup showpiece at Finca Cortesin.

Solheim Cup legend Pettersen announced debutant Dryburgh as one of four captain’s picks on Tuesday ahead of next month’s showdown against Team USA in Andalucia.

Dryburgh will become just the seventh Scot to play in the Solheim Cup, 10 months on from winning her first LPGA title in the Toto Japan Classic last November.

“I couldn’t think of a nicer person to complement the rest of the team for a week like Solheim so I’m super excited to have her,” Pettersen said.

Madelene Sagstrom has been selected for her third Solheim start alongside experienced compatriot Caroline Hedwall, meaning there are five Swedish players in Pettersen’s side.

World No. 114 Emily Pedersen, who played in the 2017 and 2021 matches, was named as Pettersen’s fourth wildcard pick.

Speaking live on Sky Sports before revealing her picks, Pettersen said she was confident that she is working with the strongest European team in Solheim Cup history.

And no wonder, after the Norwegian’s eight automatic qualifiers were confirmed following the conclusion of the ISPS Handa World Invitational on Sunday.

Celine Boutier, the standout European player of the season, will spearhead Pettersen’s side after her Evian Championship win, while Maja Stark was the second player to qualify via the LET European Solheim Points List.

Meanwhile, Charley Hull, Leona Maguire, Georgia Hall, Linn Grant, Carlota Ciganda and Anna Nordqvist all secured their spots via the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings.

There can be no doubt that Pettersen has assembled a formidable line-up as the Europeans aim to win an unprecedented hat-trick of Solheim Cups.

An intimidating mix of form, experience and youthful exuberance awaits the Americans as they aim to get revenge on their 15-13 defeat on home soil in 2021.
