Who is the Solheim Cup captain for Team USA in 2023?

The 2023 Solheim Cup is nearly upon us – but who will captain Team USA in the highly-anticipated showdown against Europe?

This year, the Solheim Cup will take place in Andalucia from September 22-24, one week before the Ryder Cup.

Finca Cortesin will stage the historic contest, with Europe aiming to make it three successive wins in the biennial battle against their big rivals.

The Team USA captain in charge of denying Europe on away soil has been confirmed as Stacy Lewis.

Lewis replaces Pat Hurst in the skipper position and is now the youngest American Solheim Cup captain in history.

The 38-year-old, who is a two-time major winner, was named the US captain back in February after four appearances in the Solheim Cup as a player.

“To be named captain for the USA Solheim Cup Team is an incredible honour and I’m beyond grateful to the committee for choosing me,” Lewis said when named captain for the 2023 contest.

“I have so many amazing memories from my years on the team and the two opportunities I’ve had to work alongside the team.

“I have learned so much from the past captains on the Solheim Cup committee, and the fact that they chose me to lead this team is one of the proudest moments of my career.”

It has also been confirmed that Lewis will retain the captaincy in 2024, with back-to-back Solheim Cups scheduled for the next two years.

That is because the contest is moving to even years from 2024 to avoid clashes with the Ryder Cup.

Former world No.1 Lewis, therefore, is in the unique position where she will take charge of two Solheim Cup teams.

She is just the fifth woman to lead Team USA in two or more Solheim Cups and will be targeting success in Spain before returning to home soil in Virginia in 2024.
