The Englishman has never shied away from being in the spotlight, but who is his caddie?

Ian Poulter’s number two has looked slightly different throughout the years, employing several men on the bag.

The Ryder Cup star turned pro in 1996 and has even had his son caddie for him, but now uses one man while playing on LIV Golf.

David Clark is the man with caddie responsibilities for the 12-time DP World tour winner.

Once a stalwart of the European Tour, Poulter made the switch to LIV Golf for its inaugural season in the summer of 2022.

Poulter was also a stalwart of the European Ryder Cup team and during those days, he had a man called Terry Mundy on the bag. In fact, the pair were together for 11 years before Mundy retired in 2017.

Poulter’s compatriot had to give up the bag due to ongoing back issues but has since been spotted caddying on occasions.

Most recently, Mundy worked with Poulter at LIV Golf London in July.

Poulter’s ex-caddie, who began caddying in 1989, worked with Laura Davies and Alison Nicolas before working with ‘the postman’.

He was made Poulter’s road manager when giving up full-time caddie work but hasn’t fully called it quits on looping, while the golfer hasn’t been short on options, as he even gave his son Luke the job in 2021.

At the Wells Fargo Championship in 2021, the Poulter’s missed the cut but that didn’t put him off coming back, as Luke caddied at the JP McManus Pro-Am in July 2022.

Then, Poulter most commonly relied on the insight of James Walton, who has been a caddie for over 15 years.

The Bedford caddie has worked with several other top players in the past, including Seung-Yul Noh, Suzann Pettersen, Kyle Stanley, Y.E. Yang, Richard Lee, Robert Karlsson and Billy Mayfair.

But in the latest twist, Poulter caused some caddie chaos by making another change ahead of the 2024 season, taking Clark off PGA Tour pro Brendan Todd’s bag.

With an impressive portfolio, Clark has ensured his years of experience have been put to good use, with the likes of Paul Casey, Justin Rose, Vijay Singh and Adam Scott.

On working with Clark, Poulter’s compatriot Rose said: “You could have a caddie who’s giving you great data, but you want someone to come in who’s going to inspire you or say something at the right time – make you laugh, make you smile.”
