The New Zealander has proven to be a prolific winner across the world since turning pro, so who is Ryan Fox’s coach?

Born in Auckland in 1987, Fox turned professional in 2012 and has won over 15 events since.

Those include multiple DP World Tour triumphs, as he secured his PGA Tour card for the 2024 season, alongside nine other players.

It came after earning his biggest win to date at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

Fox has built a distinctive swing, one that is easily recognisable, with thanks to the help of swing guru and coach, Jamie Gough.

After winning for the first time on the PGA Tour of Australasia in 2014, Fox followed it up with another success a year later.

He began playing on the Challenge Tour in 2015 before earning his DP World Tour card for the 2017 season.

A run of form that included top finishes at the Irish, French and Scottish Opens lifted Fox into the world’s top 100 and he has not looked back.

After multiple major championship starts, Fox is now in a place to cement himself on the PGA Tour and become a regular Presidents Cup star.

Much of that he will put down to the work of Gough, as the pair started working together in 2021.

He said: “My coach in New Zealand couldn’t travel during Covid, so I asked Jamie – who works with a couple of my mates – if he could take a look at me.

“We haven’t reinvented the wheel. But having eyes on me every week has been beneficial.

“I have someone to lean on and I don’t get too far ‘outside the lines.’ It’s still golf and I can lose my way, of course. But it doesn’t take me as long to find it again.”

One of the most highly respected coaches on the DP World Tour, Gough declares himself as being “half-Scottish, half-South African”, as his father Charlie is a Scot who grew up in South Africa.

Brother of former Scotland defender Richard, Jamie has worked with a long list of clients over the years.

Gough has also won titles with Ewen Ferguson and partnered with two-time Masters winner Jose Maria Olazabal, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Andy Sullivan and Joost Luiten, among others.

He represented South Africa as a junior before turning professional and then successfully transitioning into the world of golf coaching.

Fox also has performance coach Karl Morris on the team.

“I’ve been working with Karl on just trying to beat the golf course and not worry about anything else,” says Fox. “I focus purely on hitting the shots to ‘beat’ the holes.”
