Peru’s first championship ‘pitch and putt’ course opens in Lima

Golf course design firm Pizá Golf has unveiled Peru’s first championship standard ‘pitch and putt’ course at Club Regatas in Lima.

The newly designed short course in the Peruvian capital will be considered as a host for international tournaments, as it met International Pitch and Putt Federation standards.

It will serve as an addition to the existing facilities at the sports club, which is one of the largest in South America.

Founded in 1875, Club Regatas is the biggest sports club in Peru and aims to be a venue which grows the game of golf in the country.

“I want to thank Club Regatas for placing their trust in us and particularly golf committee director Alvaro Dammert who played a key role in the success of this short game facility,” said Agustin Pizá, founder of Pizá Golf.

“This is the first time an official pitch and putt golf course has been recognised in the country. We are so proud to be a part of golf history in Peru.

“I was lucky enough to be invited to take part in the inaugural event held on the course on December 1, 2023, in what we hope will be the first of many national and international competitions.”

Forty players participated in the inaugural event. Twenty players were from Chile and the El Regatas, while its board represented the remaining twenty.

The course features nine holes with 18 different teeing grounds, with two located at the top of a rock foundation.

Three artificial lakes come into play throughout the course, which adopts flower arrangements and a waterfall as the main backdrops.

Several bunkers guard the greens and line fairways, to ensure hazards pop up right across the course.

Pizá added: “These governing agencies and their dignitaries were pleasantly impressed by the Pitch and Putt design at Club Regatas.

“I am passionate about growing the game of golf globally and I’m thrilled how these influential people plan to use the Pitch and Putt for Peruvians in the future.”
