Callaway unveils new XR family

Callaway Golf has today unveiled a brand new club range that it says is its ‘fastest family of clubs ever’.

The XR line comprises drivers, fairway woods, irons and hybrids, and replaces the X2 Hot range.

The culmination of a project that brought together a host of groundbreaking technologies, all programmed to generate maximum ball speed across every product category, XR hits stores on February 20 – and, suffice to say, the folks at Callaway are hugely excited about it.

“We started with a completely blank sheet of paper with XR and have created Callaway’s hottest, fastest, most rewarding products ever,” said Dr. Alan Hocknell, the company’s head of R&D.

Let’s take a closer look…

XR Driver

Headlining the speed-focused 2015 product introductions from Callaway, the XR driver is the fastest titanium driver the brand has ever produced.

Its key features include a ‘Speed Step’ aerodynamic crown, an ultra-thin ‘R•Moto’ Face for maximum ball speeds, OptiFit loft and lie adjustability, and a Project X LZ shaft.

All of this combines to produce what Callaway describes as ‘outrageous distances’. Indeed, in the company’s own tests, the XR driver average up to 5mph faster ball speeds as compared with a 2012 Callaway driver.

XR Fairway Woods

The XR fairway woods showcase completely re-designed head shapes, featuring a 16% bigger sweet spot, 20% lower CG (thanks to re-engineered Internal Standard Wave technology), and a 36% thinner next-generation Forged Hyper Speed Face Cup. This equates to increased ball speeds and, in turn, longer strikes.

XR Hybrids

The XR hybrids use substantial heel and toe weighting to give maximum forgiveness on all shots, whilst a totally new Forged Hyper Speed Face Cup design ‘dramatically increases’ ball speeds and distance.

XR Irons

According to Callaway, the two-piece construction XR irons – the first high-speed, cavity back, 360 Cup Face irons – ‘redefine’ the iron category.  For the first time, they incorporate an Internal Standing Wave (precisely positioning the CG and improving playability) and a Cup Face design meaning increased forgiveness, greater ball speeds and more accuracy.
