Thistle All Weather Grass is offering you the fantastic chance to have a short game practice area in your very own back garden.

Thanks to the innovative artificial surface they offer, they are able to create a green that performs like normal grass and can run up to 11.5 on the stimpmeter.

Obviously prices can vary depending on the size of the surface, but it is entirely possible for your garden to be transformed in less than a day, creating every golfer’s dream of having your very own practice facility to use in their back garden.

Utilising their expert knowledge, Thistle All Weather Grass can deal with any terrain and turn it into a perfect putting surface within a matter of hours. If your garden is covered in turf, they will use a turf lifter to remove it and bring it down to the same level as if you were relaying the turf from a shop.

Once all the turf has been removed, a weed membrane will sit over the surface to prevent any weeds coming through. The next step is to cover the membrane with a Type-1 sub-base, which is made from crushed stone, to strengthen the area and take away any humps and bumps in the surface.

A compaction plate will then be used to smooth over the sub-base, creating a level area for the artificial grass to be placed over.

It is at that stage the experts at Thistle All Weather Grass can build any undulations you wish to have on the green to give you the option of a breaking putt.

The sub-base is then covered with sharp sand, a type of grit sand that is used because of its good drainage qualities.

All of the products used by Thistle All Weather Grass have been chosen to aid the drainage process, ensuring no damage is caused to the grass or the ground below by excess water.

Any water that lands on the grass will filter through the drainage holes with ease and make its way back into the ground, keeping the surface ready for use and play at all times.

Once the sand has been laid, Thistle All Weather Grass will screed the sand using a rake, to ensure it has been spread evenly over the ground. Finally a roller is used to ensure the sand is perfectly flat and ready for the holes to be cut into the ground and the artificial grass surface to be rolled out.

Derek MacKay, director of Thistle All Weather Grass, said: “All of the products we use are environmentally friendly and can actually help reduce your emissions. They’re also family and pet friendly, meaning they can be easily cleaned using a brush or a vacuum cleaner two or three times a year.

“The surfaces are great for all to enjoy and we offer a six year warrantee to ensure you get the most out of it.

Once the foundations have been completed and the holes have been cemented in, the team roll out the artificial grass, which arrives like a roll of carpet. Each roll is 3.66-metres in width when it is delivered, before being tailored to fit your garden.

If the area is wider than 3.66-metres, don’t fret. The Thistle All Weather Grass team join the rolls of artificial grass together using a combination of joining tape and adhesive, meaning you can have the covered area as long and as wide as you want.

The fringe grass is joined to the putting surface using galvanised nails, before being trimmed to suit your needs. Finally, the holes are precisely cut before it is cleaned using blowers and a Dyson hoover.
