Ping G430 Max 10K driver review

The G430 Max 10K is Ping’s most forgiving driver to date and is going to appeal to the masses, whether you’re a tour pro or a high handicapper.

The First Look

This is a larger profile than the G430 Max and is Ping’s largest head profile to date. Immediately that feels so confidence-inspiring and I’m not even on the tee! It features the Carbon Fly Wrap which we’ve see on the crown in the LST model and a fixed-back weight which is 28 grams. Now it looks big and inviting and is definitely going to make you’ll confident over the ball.

The Tech

This is Ping’s biggest head profile to date which maximises the USGA-allowable heel-toe and front-back dimensions to extend the perimeter weighting. This adds to the forgiveness of the club head while staying within the 460cc volume limit.

The larger head helps with alignment and is slightly louder in sound acoustically in comparison to the G430 Max. With the addition of the new Carbon Fly Wrap on the crown, this has allowed 5-grams of weight to be saved which means a heavier back weight of 28-grams to be used. The back weight drives mass down and back to increase forgiveness and optimise the CG position, lowering spin for fast ball-speeds across the clubface for added distance.

The shallower and thinner forged face is optimised for more face flexing for faster ball speeds. It relies on Spinsistency, which is a variable roll radius innovation, to optimise spin across the face for added distance.

So, you’ll have more forgiveness and better spin control across the face. There is also a G430 max 10K High Launch option as well for your slower swing speed with the difference being in the back weight which is 18-gram and selection of lighter weight shafts for faster club speed.

The bunkered Verdict

It looks great at address with the larger head and carbon fly wrap. I was a fan of that when I tested the G430 LST and the new crown looks great.

The feel and sound of the face is something I really enjoyed. It’s slightly louder but makes you feel like you are smashing it every time. This will definitely give you confidence when standing over the ball.

What I liked most is how forgiving and straight it is and with the 10K MOI you definitely notice those off-centre strikes are still going toward your intended target with not much sacrifice in distance.

There is now a driver for everyone in the G430 range, and this is definitely going to stand out with amateurs and pros alike.
