Golf Pride Reverse Taper putter grip review

Golf Pride are market leaders when it comes to grips, and they have just added a new option to their extensive offering.

The new Reverse Taper putter grip is designed using artificial intelligence to keep the putter face square at impact, so you can get more putts starting on line. But does it work? Well, I went to Spain with the Golf Pride team to test it out. Read on to find out how it performed in my hands.

First Look

The new Golf Pride Reverse Taper is almost like an upside-down grip. Most grips tend to be thicker at the top and thinner at the bottom, but this new Reverse Taper is the opposite. The Pistol, Round and Flat are the three options available and are designed to help anchor the top hand for stability and reduce tension in the lower hand for smooth acceleration through the stroke. It might look a little unusual, but the technology works!

The Tech

This new Reverse Taper design is made using polyurethane to deliver the right softness, texture and weight that feels great in your hands. The feel is soft and comfortable with unique traction elements to help each hand control speed. The grips are black, white and red with textures to help with finger placement regardless of how a player likes to grip their putter. Despite there being multiple sizes, the weight of each model maintains a balanced ‘sweet spot’ so golfers can sense the putter head throughout the stroke.

Reverse Taper is available in two sizes in three unique shapes. The Round is going to be popular for all hand gripping techniques and features a traditionally round upper section that tapers into a wider lower section. The classic Pistol shape will help golfers lock in their upper hand; designed for all and often popular with players who use a left-hand-low technique (right-handed golfer). With slightly more oval shaped upper section the Flat is designed for all and often preferred by golfers with a palm-to-palm putting stroke style

“Within the putter grip category, we observed a trend in which manufacturers were actively trying to design products that removed the hands from the putting process, whereas our research indicates that by optimising the connection between the hands and grip, players can improve their performance. Through hundreds of concept iterations, our innovation team created Reverse Taper, which has tested quite positively with players of all skill levels.” – James Ledford, President of Golf Pride.

The bunkered Verdict

I went to Sotogrande with Golf Pride to test this putter grip out, and the team at Golf Pride were very excited about how this was going to perform. After getting it in my hands, I could see why they were so excited.

I’m very impressed by the Golf Pride Reverse Taper grip. I’ve hit many putts with this new grip and have continued to play with it since. I’ve tested it extensively and it’s really impressive, for me out of three choices the Pistol style suited me, and it took that dreaded pull left out of my stroke and I holed a lot more of those tricky five-foot putts by just by getting a better start line and roll.

The feedback from the putter face when hitting putts is great and the weighting really is brilliant, it makes getting your pace control easy. I’m a big fan as it sit in the hands great, I can keep the face square through my putts and it takes my wrists out of it. With three options to choose from this is great putter grip and with three options and two sizes there’s one for.
