Scotty Cameron Phantom review

With ten different models to choose from in the Scotty Cameron Phantom range, there really is something to suit everyone’s eye here. Let’s dive into my review of Scotty Cameron’s 2024 putter range.

First Look

We have a lot to look at here, with ten different models. There’s so much choice and I like what I’m seeing across the board. The Phantom 5,7,9 and 11 all look amazing. With different neck and shaft combinations there’s plenty of decisions to be made. The biggest standout is the new alignment on each of the heads, varying from dots and arrows. This really frames the ball nicely to my eye. I’m a big fan.

The Tech

The new Phantom range has been developed using player input which is where the new alignment shapes come from.

The new alignment system ranges from milled sight dots on the 5 and 7 models, to straight sight lines on the 9 models, to arrow-shaped lines on the 11 models. This gives you a great visual on where you want to send those putts. Each putter face and body is crafted from 303 stainless steel and the paired with a lightweight 6061 aircraft aluminium flange and sole plate components. This is what gives more stability and dampens unwanted vibrations at impact. Every face goes through a dual milling process which is what gives you that great feel and sound. The putter faces also undergo an initial deep mill, before a second pass levels the milling peaks to produce a flatter, more consistent surface.

This really does give that better consistency, not only in feel but roll as well. You also have two putter weights on the soles of each head to make sure you have the correct swing weight. The new custom designed grip offers more contact and comfort as well as improved face angle awareness through a flat top surface. To cap it off, the putter heads all undergo Scotty’s silver mist process which gives you the aesthetically pleasing glare-resistant appearance and texture.

The bunkered Verdict

These look amazing and feel amazing, I’m a big fan. The 5 looks brilliant with the three dots on top and feels so crisp on the face. The shape is not as big as the others but it’s so well balanced.

The 7 was probably one of my favourites with three dots and the lines going down each fang, really framed the ball nicely. Again, the feel of the deep-milled face was just so good.

The 9 is an interesting-looking head shape but I really did like the two lines on the top of the putter. I felt I could just push the ball to its target line with ease and with it being a larger head shape the high MOI design is ideal for mishits.

Lastly, we have the 9 which if I’m honest, I wasn’t initially sure about because of the big arrow, but I was pleasantly surprised. It’s so well balanced and with it being high MOI it feels so stable and soft off the face. If I had to choose one it would be the Phantom 11. I like what I’m looking down at with an arrow lining me up to every putt and the feeling off the face is brilliant.
