There had been 19 editions of the Ryder Cup without a hole-in-one until Englishman Baker delivered one at Muirfield. A late replacement for Bernard Gallacher, Butler partnered Scotland’s Brian Barnes in their foursomes match with Jack Nicklaus and Tom Weiskopf on the second day of the 1973 clash. Despite Baker’s heroics, however, the Nicklaus and Weiskopf still ran out one-up winners as the US ultimately extended their Ryder Cup winning streak to eight-in-a-row.
