LIV golf Tulsa preview

Justin Rose is the headline name at the 2023 British Masters hosted by Sir Nick Faldo at The Belfry.

The DP World Tour returns to British shores at the famous four-time Ryder Cup venue, where Rose will be joined by a number of top Europeans also hoping to make Luke Donald’s team for Rome in September.

And the tournament, which returned from a six-year hiatus in 2015, will now be played at the iconic course until 2026 with Faldo as host after it first held the event in 2021.

Former Ryder Cup star Thorbjorn Olesen is the defending champion after an epic victory to end a four-year winless run on the European circuit in last year’s event.

Olesen trailed by two shots with two holes remaining but pulled out one of the most remarkable finishes in recent memory, knocking in a 30ft eagle putt on the par-five 17th and sinking another long one on the last to edge out Sebastian Soderberg and claim a dramatic victory.

The Dane will be in the field to defend his title alongside fellow Ryder Cup hopefuls including Adrian Meronk, Victor Perez and Jorge Campillo.

Min Woo Lee, the Australian who secured a top-five finish at the US Open in Los Angeles, will also tee it up on British soil a week after appearing in Travelers Championship on the PGA Tour.

The bunkered Bet

Thorbjorn Olesen 25/1

The defending champion will fancy his chances of going back-to-back at The Belfry. He leaned on his brilliance on the greens last year in a dramatic finish and knows a similar showing will put him in a great position to feature once again on the European Ryder Cup team this September.

He finished third at the Soudal Open last month and already has a victory under his belt this year at the Thailand Classic in February. Olesen’s game is trending in the right direction as he arrives on British soil.
