The fifth Rocket Mortgage Classic won’t be lacking for field firepower, though, as major winners and former champions head an elite field.

For all Fowler’s talent and popularity, he has not managed to become a prolific winner with just five victories to his name on the PGA Tour. But while he collapsed in the final round of the US Open, a career-low round of 60 on Saturday at the Travelers Championship showed he is well and truly back in tune with all aspects of his game.

The winning score in Detroit last year was 26-under and few players have been making as many birdies as Fowler in recent weeks. With plenty of players taking a much-needed rest given this is not one of the designated events, Fowler could capitalise and claim his first win since 2019.
