Brooks Koepka has shut down any possibility of salvaging his relationship with Matthew Wolff by claiming: “Sometimes you can’t help people that don’t want help.”

Smash GC captain Koepka said back in July that he has “basically given up” on his teammate Wolff, questioning his work ethic after he withdrew from LIV’s event in Washington and describing him as a “talent wasted.”

Wolff, who has been open about his struggles with mental health since turning pro, said the stinging public criticism was ‘heartbreaking’ and ‘beyond disappointing.’

“This has been quite difficult for me,” he said. “My challenges on and off the golf course with my mental health has been well documented. I deal with those challenges every day.”

Koepka took another swipe at Wolff before winning LIV Golf Jeddah last week, as he failed to acknowledge the 24-year-old’s  presence on his team. “There’s only three of us on our team,” he said when asked about the “brotherhood” in his side.

And the five-time major champion said before LIV’s $50m Team Championship finale in Miami that he now barely speaks to Wolff. “We don’t have much interaction, no,” Koepka admitted.

“I’ve tried. I’ve spent the majority of the beginning of the year trying to help and trying to figure that out.

“But I think it’s past its point. I’ve tried. I’ve been very open with it. Sometimes you can’t help people that don’t want help.”

It now seems increasingly likely that Koepka will be building a completely new team for LIV’s 2024 season, with it now blindingly obvious that his fractious relationship with Wolff is beyond repair.

His brother Chase Koepka, meanwhile, was one of the first four LIV players ever to be relegated from the enterprise after ending the regular season inside the drop zone.

Chase finished 48th in the individual points standings and his only chances of a route back is in the inaugural Promotions Event, where three spots are up for grabs in a full field tournament earmarked for December.
