Legendary architect Tom Fazio will design his first golf course in the United Arab Emirates, once work at Discovery Dunes finishes.

Located in Dubai South, the new 2km2 private property and leisure estate is being billed as the largest single, urban masterplan development in the country.

Once complete, Discovery Dunes will boast mansions, villas, an 18-hole golf course and other leisure amenities including a wellness centre, equestrian centre, an adventure park and kid’s club.

While the course does not currently have details on the routing or style, it is in the safe hands of Fazio, who has designed or reworked over 200 courses.

Among that impressive list are the likes of Kiawah Island, PGA National and Pinehurst Resort.

Meanwhile, Discovery Dunes is owned by Discovery Land Company, whose portfolio of international properties includes CostaTerra in Portugal, which boasts the Fazio-designed Terras da Comporta golf course.

The company, who specialise in high-end residential golf courses, purchased the land outright for $272 million.

No date has been confirmed for opening, but empty lots are being offered from $6 million to $25 million, with 340 plots for houses and apartments up for grabs.

Several mid-rise apartment buildings will also be built near the clubhouse.

Homes will be sold at a cost of about $700 to $1,200 per square foot, with buyers afforded the option to choose from Discovery Land’s designs or have their own approved.

Perks are sweet on this one, as all property owners at Discovery Dunes will be offered free lifetime membership of the golf club. That will also come with access to Discovery Downtown, a private city club which will connect the main club community to Dubai’s vibrant downtown life.

And who could forget the concierge access to the private jet terminal next door.

Discovery Land Company has started to build out the golf course, clubhouse, wellness centre and spa, and a farm to grow vegetables.
