Rory McIlroy is back in action this week, as the DP World Tour heads to the Emirates Golf Club.

It’s the Hero Dubai Desert Classic this week, as the DP World Tour continues its run of Rolex Series events in the UAE. Last week, Victor Perez was the winner, thanks largely to a spectacular hole-out from the bunker on the 71st hole.

Last year’s event here also produced a dramatic finish. Viktor Hovland was victorious, after he covered the final three holes in four-under-par. That, coupled with McIlroy finding the water on the 18th, meant the Norwegian found himself in a playoff with Richard Bland. A birdie at the first time of asking was enough for the win.

Several DP World Tour big-hitters such as Fleetwood, Lowry and Hatton are in the field this week, and they’re once again joined by several LIV Golf players. Westwood, Weisberger and Poulter all made the journey from Yas Links to Emirates GC to tee it up on the DP World Tour again.

This event has been around since 1989, but this is the first year it’s been sponsored by Hero. It’s been at the Emirates Golf Club every year bar two.

Let’s take a look at all the details ahead of the action getting underway.

The bunkered Bet

Robert MacIntyre

McIlroy is very short odds for a reason, but if you’re looking for some value, the Scot is a good bet. MacIntyre was steady without being spectacular last week, and his game looks in a great place at the start of 2023.

Always gamble responsibly.
