LEADERBOARD –7 Tringale; -4 Woodland, Ghim; -3 Kitayama, Fitzpatrick, Schauffele, J. Smith SELECTED OTHERS –2 Hatton; -1 Syme; E Rahm, Spieth.

Cameron Tringale still leads, but Xander Schauffele and Matt Fitzpatrick came to the fore on day two at the Genesis Scottish Open.

On another windswept day at the Renaissance Club, the pair had the rounds of the day. Schauffele’s 65 and Fitzpatrick’s 66 put them firmly in contention heading into the weekend.

As expected, the early wave again had the better of the conditions, while those out later struggled. Case in point was Tringale, who after a 61 on Thursday was 11 shots worse off.

Safely in the clubhouse by that point was Fitzpatrick, who is among a clutch of players well-placed at the halfway mark.

“I feel like I’ve putted well here and that’s been a big thing,” the US Open champion said.

“I’ve played here four times and there’s been all sorts of scores win, so I’ve got no idea what’s going to do it.

“It’s more of a test this year. The addition of a couple of bunkers makes it interesting. It’s a decent course to play in preparation for an Open Championship.”

Many of the bigger names toiled. Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas and world No.1 Scottie Scheffler are all heading home early.

Home favourite Robert MacIntyre was unable to recover after a disappointing final round and also will not be around for the weekend.

But with more of the same expected on Saturday, it is all to play for at Renaissance.
