If you’re an avid user of golf Twitter, you’ll likely have heard rumours of a new golf course coming to Augusta.

Well, it looks like there’s plenty of substance to them.

Say hello to Cypress Shoals, a brand-new development in the north of the city, bordering the Savannah River and the Sumter National Forest, just four-and-a-half miles from Masters host venue Augusta National

• Rory McIlroy supports golf ball rollback

• Crypto group complete purchase of Spey Bay

First spotted by the Eureka Earth Twitter account, the “multi-generational, mixed-use development” is positioning itself as “America’s Next Great Masterpiece”.

“Designed for outdoor enthusiasts that enjoy active lifestyles, Cypress Shoals is the perfect combination of luxury and ease of access without compromising the tranquility of exclusivity, the privacy of seclusion as well as absolute security.”

The development will include two 18-hole golf courses, one of which will be designed by two-time Masters champ Tom Watson.

“Adding Watson’s signature touch to Cypress Shoals,” reads the sales blurb, “not only broadens its appeal to golfers but also assures the value his name brings to enhancing a luxury lifestyle.”

There will also be golf swing suites, performance facility and a nine-hole short course, as well as a world-class spa, beauty and wellness centre, 200 residential lots, 60 club condominiums and 20 golf cottages.

A five-star boutique riverfront inn will be supplemented by 40 one-acre lots and luxury cabins, as well as fishing, equestrian, kayaking and hunting amenities.

• Major champ splits with long-time caddie

• Star trio confirmed for Genesis Scottish Open

There is no indication of when it will open. There also doesn’t appear to be any obvious direct links to Augusta National Golf Club or, indeed, LIV Golf. Some had been speculating that the Saudi-funded golf league was looking to build its own golf course in The Masters’ home city but that doesn’t appear to be the case.

Expect to hear a lot more about this in due course – perhaps in a fortnight’s time when Augusta National stages the 87th edition of The Masters.
