Paige Spiranac has revealed John Daly pulled out of their charity golf match just hours before he was due to tee it up in a contest billed as ‘Beauty vs the Beast.’

Two-time major champion Daly and leading influencer Spiranac had been due to compete against each other at the Geneva National Club in Wisconsin.

But Daly was a complete no show for the ticketed charity event on Monday after failing to show up in any capacity due to injury.

However, former pro Spiranac was not perturbed and was more than impressed with Daly’s last-minute replacement Jerry Kelly, a three-time PGA Tour winner who plays on the Champions Tour.

“Today was supposed to be my match against John Daly,” Spiranac tweeted. “When he didn’t show, Jerry Kelly filled in. Jerry made 10 birdies and 2 eagles today. It was the greatest round of golf I’ve ever witnessed.

“We raised a ton for charity and I’m not too mad with the 66 I shot. What a great day at Geneva National!”

But fan-favourite Daly’s late withdrawal was a blow for fans who wanted to see the charismatic American in action.

And when asked about the 57-year-old’s absence, Spiranac wrote: “Was told at 8 am the day of the event which started at 10:30 am he couldn’t come or even ride around because of an injury.

“Hope he has a speedy recovery.”

The event was still deemed a huge success, with all ticket proceeds going to veteran charities Heart of a Lion and Special Operations Warrior Foundation.

“Thank you to the thousands of people who attended the event today!” Spiranac added on Instagram. “And thank you to @jkelly13pga for putting on a show! So much money raised.”

Daly, meanwhile, is perhaps suffering from the same injury problem that forced him to withdraw from last month’s PGA Championship, where he is a past winner.

He also withdrew after 13 holes of the Senior PGA Championship a week later citing knee issues.

The 1995 Open champion was recently forced to cancel an upcoming visit to Torrance House Golf Club in East Kilbride in July due to upcoming knee surgery.
