As he continues to recover from his latest surgery, Tiger Woods watched his son dominate a junior golf tournament in Florida.

Charlie Woods, 14, cruised to victory in the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour’s Major Championship at the Village Golf Course last week.

He was the only person to shoot under par in the 36-hole event, with his one-under-par total eight shots better than closest competitor Noah Manly.

Woods made four birdies in an even par opening round 72 on Saturday to lead by five shots.

And he posted five more birdies in an impressive final round 71 on a 6,665 yard layout in Royal Palm Beach.

The Boys 14-15 division Woods competed in played from the same tees as the 16-18 year-old category, with Woods also impressively outscoring those in the senior section by nine shots.

Inevitably, there is huge attention on the son of a golf legend who is now in the media spotlight on an annual basis competing as part of Team Woods in the PNC Championship.

The PGA Tour’s family event in Orlando has proved a striking introduction for Woods to the unique global interest in his game.

His swing has been constantly scrutinised, with every move likened to his 15-time-major champion father.

Tiger even explained how he is aiming to nurture him into a mentality monster on the course, just like his own father did.

“It’s non-stop, non-stop. It’s trying to get him – if I can get into his head, that means someone else can get into his head,” Woods said. “It’s going to get to a point where I can’t get into his head, and then no one else can get in there either.

“That’s what my dad believed. You’ve got to be willing to take it.”

Whether Woods follows in his father’s footsteps and carves out a distinguished career at the highest level remains to be seen, but he is certainly progressing well in the junior ranks.

As well his success at the Village Golf Course, Woods finished inside the top ten in April’s PGA National Junior Open and won the HJGT South Florida Junior Open title in February.
