Eddie Pepperell insists Brooks Koepka is “too good” to play LIV Golf, but believes the Saudi-backed setup is “perfect” for the major-focused American.

Koepka’s resurgence from the wilderness back to the big time was complete with his two-shot victory at the PGA Championship at Oak Hill.

The 33-year-old was battling injury and a crisis of confidence before jumping ship for LIV, but proved he is still a ruthless winner as he got his hands on his third Wanamaker trophy, just weeks after “choking away” an overnight lead at The Masters.

Sunday was a landmark moment for the fledgling LIV series as Koepka proved once and for all that the elite players do not simply slide into competitive irrelevance when defecting from the PGA Tour or DP World Tour to the 54-hole invitational events.

And outspoken DP World Tour pro Pepperell argues that the 14-event league is the ideal arrangement for a player who only has eyes for the Big Four in golf.

“LIV is ideal for Brooks,” Pepperell tweeted. “He’s clearly only cared for the majors since 2017, so why not get paid a ton of cash to play when you hardly care. It’s perfect for him. But love watching him do his stuff at the majors.”

But there have also been whispers of Koepka’s potential buyers’ remorse over ditching the PGA Tour and therefore missing out on some high-profile tussles in eminent events throughout the season.

And despite winning his fifth major title, Pepperell is convinced that there is something inside Koepka that regrets no longer being able to play on the fiercely competitive American circuit.

When Twitter account ‘GolfLoverUK’ responded by stating Pepperrell’s assertion that Koepka only cares about winning the majors was “invalidated” by his two individual LIV titles, Pepperell replied: “Who doesn’t like winning?

“He’s too good to be on LIV and I think it’s a shame he’s not playing against the best in the world more regularly. He must surely wish that too deep down in his competitive belly, but I could be wrong.”
