The 2024 Open Championship – the 152nd edition of golf’s oldest major – will be held at Royal Troon.

The Open returns to Scotland after the 2023 tournament held in the North West of England at Royal Liverpool.

It will be the first time the historic championship has been staged at Royal Troon’s Old Course in South Ayrshire since 2016.

The 2024 Open championship will take place from July 18-21.

The latest time Royal Troon hosted the Open, it proved to be one of the most thrilling final days in recent memory.

Henrik Stenson held off Phil Mickelson in an epic battle that will go down as a duel for the ages to lift the Claret Jug in 2016.

The iconic links re-designed by five-time Champion Golfer James Braid will host the Open for its tenth time in 2024.

• Where will the 2024 US Open be played?

Englishman Arthur Havers won the first Open held at Troon in 1923 and South African Bobby Locke defended the Claret Jug with one of his four Open wins in 1950.

From then on there was American domination, with Arnold Palmer, Tom Weiskopf, Tom Watson, Mark Calcavecchia, Justin Leonard and Todd Hamilton all hoisting the Claret Jug at Troon before Sweden’s Stenson reigned supreme.

The Royal Troon course is known for its stunning views throughout and a devilishly difficult back-nine that challenges players under the most extreme pressure, making for more exciting viewing in 2024.

The tournament will be broadcast live with full coverage exclusively on Sky Sports, while ticket information can be accessed via The Open website.
