Jon Rahm has multiple major championship wins – including the US Open in 2021 and the Masters in 2023 – and has spent time as the world No.1 whilst also becoming a key figure in the European Ryder Cup team.

The main man working with Rahm throughout his career so far is the renowned golf coach Dave Phillips.

Rahm started working with his coach Phillips when he was 17-years-old, meaning that Phillips has been a part of the Spaniard’s team since before he turned professional.

The duo met through the Spanish Golf Federation whilst Rahm was attending Arizona State University, and they have continued their relationship for over a decade.

“I remember watching him hit balls, and right away it was like, oh, this is different” Phillips told For Wellness. “He just had a little bit of swagger.

“But the questions he asked, that was most powerful. He wasn’t like this reserved kid. He wanted to know the answers.”

Born in England and raised in both Australia and Africa, Phillips has been among the world’s foremost instructors for the past two decades, working with many top professionals on the PGA Tour and other circuits.

He is ranked inside the top-100 coaches in the US and is one of the most in-demand teachers in the country. Players he has worked with include Tom Kite, Peter Jacobsen and Brad Faxon.

Based in California, Phillips is a co-founder of the well-known Titleist Performance Institute, along with Dr Greg Rose.

The pair combine Titleist’s expertise in club-fitting with individual physical attributes and swing intricacies to deliver tailored coaching for each player.

Phillips has also spent a considerable amount of time working with fellow golf coach David Leadbetter in Orlando, Florida, and as the director of instruction at Caves Valley Golf Club. While there, he established one of America’s top teaching facilities.

Over the years, he has developed a successful business, offering corporate lessons, as well as golf outings, group sessions and client entertainment.
