Nelly Korda is the dominant force on the LPGA Tour, so who is her coach?

A multiple major champion courtesy of wins at the 2021 Women’s PGA Championship and 2024 Chevron Championship, Korda has nailed down one of the best swings in golf.

She rose to fame in 2013 when qualifying for the US Women’s Open as an amateur and the rest is history.

Korda joined the LPGA Tour in 2017 and when you throw in an Olympic gold medal, she has built quite the CV.

Born in Florida in 1998, Korda claims to owe much of her success to David Whelan, a man who has coached several players on the LPGA Tour.

However, Korda is working more closely with a different coach nowadays.

Korda’s coach is a man names Jamie Mulligan – someone she had worked with previously.

The Floridian made history in 2024 by kicking off the year with five straight wins and Mulligan was by her side throughout the remarkable stint.

Flying clear at the top of the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings, Korda has stuck to Mulligan’s system; keeping it simple in the heat of competition.

The pair first teamed up in 2021, when Korda was desperate to improve despite being in a breakout season in which she won gold.

Fresh off her fourth LPGA Tour victory, she hired Mulligan, the longtime pro at Virginia Country Club in Long Beach, California.

He had most notably worked with Patrick Cantlay, while the connection was formed through Nelly’s sister, Jessica.

“I know Jess is really good friends with Patrick Cantlay and, I don’t know, I’ve kind of surfed around,” Korda said.

“I thought about a couple coaches and I liked his demeanour. I like the way he’s super positive. I think we’ve just clicked kind of since the first day and I really enjoy being around him.”

Korda and mulligan split in 2023, however. She said they remained close but cited time management as an issue in their relationship, moving on to work with Jason Baile.

Baile, director of instruction at Jupiter Hills Club in Florida, started working with the World No. 1 just before the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in 2023.

Meanwhile, Korda still considered David Whelan to be part of her team.

She began working with the Englishman at 15-years-old, and saw him at Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Florida, when she was at home.

Whelan, who was a playing professional, coached the likes of Paula Creamer and Catriona Matthew. He has also worked with former Ryder Cup player Hunter Mahan, as well as Peter Uihlein.

Korda and Whelan did split for a short time at the start of 2021, when she worked with Justin Sheehan. However, that partnership was short lived, as Korda soon went back to her original coach.

“I just trust Dave so much,” Korda said after the pair reunited.

“I wouldn’t be where I am without him. He holds a special place in my heart. Always will. And I think the chemistry is obviously there and we work well together.”

It is unclear how much Korda and Whelan still work together, with Mulligan the front-runner in Korda’s current dominance of the women’s game.
