It’s a week with a difference on the PGA Tour. Here’s our Zurich Classic preview.
Unlike most week’s on the PGA Tour, this is a team event, where players pair up with one another. Thursday and Saturday are rounds of fourball betterball, while Friday and Sunday are alternate shot. Expect to see some pretty low scoring in round one and three, but not so much on the second and final day.
Last year, it was the pairing of Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay who came out on top, and they’re teaming up again to defend their title. Both players have been on form lately and look like a formidable team.
The event has a habit of producing top-class winners, with Cam Smith and Jon Rahm amongst recent names on the trophy. Also in the field this year, there’s an all-Fitzpatrick pairing in the form of Matthew and Alex.
All in all, there’s 80 teams with two players each.

The event is played over a Pete Dye design, TPC Louisianna, which opened in 2004. The signature hole comes at the 18th, where there’s water all the way down the right hand side of this par-5.
The Zurich Classic has been a team event since 2017, and has been sponsored by Zurich since 2005.

The bunkered Bet
Sahith Theegala/Justin Suh
Theegala finished ninth at the Masters and tore through the field on Sunday at the RBC Heritage, and his partner is no slouch either. Both players are in good form and make for a handy bet at this price.
The announcements keep on coming! Today @SRTheegala announced that he will partnering with @Just_Suh for the 2023 #ZurichClassic !!! #teamgolf pic.twitter.com/TEaTlkc4Cw
