Cleveland are renowned for one of the top wedge designers in the game and they continue to smash it out the park year after year – and 2024 is no exception. The latest line-up will take your confidence to the next level with its levels of versatility and control. With that in mind, let’s get into our Cleveland RTX Full-Face 2 wedges review…

The First Look

I love the shape of the wedge at address. It’s really clean with a slightly higher toe and a full face of grooves – as the name suggests – which looks great.

The leading edge is sharp with a great transition into the hosel which is nice on the eye, and behind the ball it has the ability to open and square the face thanks to a tight leading edge for that extra bit of versatality.

The Tech

One new bit of technology in the RTX Full-Face 2 wedge is what Cleveland are calling ‘HydraZip’. This is a lasered micro-milled series of line that are angled toward the RTX Full-Face 2’s grooves, which adds more friction at impact. What this means for you is maximum spin in wet or dry conditions, and from anywhere around the green.

You then have the ‘UltiZip’ grooves that cover the whole face. These grooves are great for getting through tough lies and the high-toe allows you to be more aggressive on shorter shots.

Another key feature is the ‘ZipCore’ technology. This allows the centre of gravity to be placed behind the strike zone to the deliver consistent performance and forgiveness. What’s interesting is it has up to 96% more ZipCore material compared to its predecessor, which delivers 13% better MOI for better stability.

There are three sole grinds from which to choose. For lower lofts – 50° and 52° – the S-Shaped sole with 8° of bounce provides an optimal balance of control and manoeuvrability. Sand wedge lofts feature a similar S-Shaped sole but with more bounce at 10°, ideal for tackling those tricky bunker shots, while lofts of 58° and up benefit from the C-Shaped sole with 8° bounce, designed for flops or escapes from challenging lies.

The bunkered Verdict

As a low-handicap golfer, I think Cleveland have nailed it with the RTX Full-Face 2 wedges.

The spin and control I get around the green is superb, and I love the feel off the face. You can hear the ball revving in the air and you can play such a wide variety of shots that it really does give you that added confidence to attack pins.

I found that with the generous amount of spin, I got much more aggressive with certain shots – particularly from closer in.

I’m a huge fan of this wedge and it’s an absolute must-try if you are a low-handicap player or highly-skilled wedge player.
