Double drivers

Probably Phil’s most infamous and cross-examined gear choice over the years was his decision to put two drivers in the bag just before the 2006 Masters.

That’s right, two drivers for someone who is notoriously wild from the tee.

One of his Callaway FT-3 drivers was set at 9.5˚, was 46 inches long and enabled Lefty to hit a draw. His other Callaway FT-3 was an inch shorter, the same loft but set up to hit a fade.

This seemingly strange decision did, however, pay off for Phil in a very big way.

At the 2006 Bell South Classic he won by an incredible 13 shots, and a week later at the Masters he won his second green jacket.

You would think that with success like this he would have stuck with this set-up for a long time, but alas we have only seen Phil with two drivers sparingly throughout the years, most recently at the 2019 Memorial Tournament.
