Rory McIlroy ended a 553-day winless streak at the Wells Fargo Championship after switching to an old set of irons.

Since last summer, the Northern Irishman has had TaylorMade’s latest P•7MB irons in the bag, but prior to teeing off at Quail Hollow he decided to go back to the P730 Rors Proto irons he first put into play in 2017.

The decision clearly paid off, with McIlroy ranking 10th in Strokes Gained: Approach and tied third in Greens in Regulation across the four rounds.

Another key weapon the 32-year-old’s arsenal was his TaylorMade SIM2 driver.

He ranked second in the driving distance stats, averaging a whopping 324.4 yards off the tee. His longest drive of the week measured at 372 yards.

The other tools at his disposal from the tee are two TaylorMade SIM fairway woods.

McIlroy’s touch around the greens throughout the week was nothing short of magical, ranking second in scrambling. He carries a TaylorMade Milled Grind pitching wedge and two of the brand’s Milled Grind 2 models with the same sole grinds as Tiger Woods.

• TaylorMade’s four new Spider putter models

A recent addition to his bag is the new Spider X Hydro Blast putter and at the beginning of this year he also switched to the 2021 TP5x golf ball.
