Brian Harman is the 151st Open champion after battling some dismal conditions at Royal Liverpool Golf Club, but what shoes did he wear while doing it?

The left-hander from Savannah is unlikely to have played in weather like he faced at Hoylake back home, but it didn’t stop him from dominating at the Open.

A large part of that was done to his equipment, and while the contents of his bag has been well documented, you might not know that Harman wears FootJoy Tour Alpha shoes on the course.

These shoes, Harman says, offer him stability and comfort on the course no matter the conditions.

“I trust the stability and comfort and stability of Tour Alpha in conditions around the world, including at The Open Championship,” Harman said following his first major win.

The Tour Alpha’s premium, powerful silhouette is packed with visible technology allowing golfers to see and feel the innovation, which is activated throughout each step of the golf swing, empowering players to take total control of their game.

At the forefront of its innovation is the game-changing OPS technology – Optimised Performance Stabiliser – a three component innovation that locks-in the golfer’s foot to deliver superior feel, unrivalled traction and optimise power.

Guy Smith, FootJoy’s EMEA Senior Product Manager, commenting after Harman’s win, said: “Our Tour series has always been our most stable silhouette in the FootJoy portfolio, and the Tour Alpha is undoubtedly our most intelligent golf specific innovation to date, which pushes the boundary of footwear technology with the OPS system driving performance at every step of the golf swing.”

Throughout almost all of his career, Brian Harman has enjoyed wearing FootJoy shoes. While playing in the Walker Cup in 2005 and 2009, Harman wore FootJoy shoes, on his way to team wins.

When Harman first made it onto the PGA Tour, however, he was one of several players to play with adidas golf shoes.

This continued until the start of 2018, when Harman switched into wearing FootJoy shoes and a similar style to the one he sports in 2023.
