Brian Harman is the 2023 Champion Golfer of the Year – but who is his caddie?

Brian Harman strolled to a six-shot win in the Open Championship to seal his maiden major title at Royal Liverpool.

It was an utterly dominant display from the American ever since stealing a formidable five-stroke advantage at the halfway stage.

He cruised past the likes of Jon Rahm, Sepp Straka, Jason Day and Tom Kim as he mastered the Hoylake links to win on the greatest stage of all.

But Harman was not the only man who deserves credit for his triumph – his caddie was the calming influence who was also tasked with keeping his clubs dry in the driving rain during a deluged final round on Sunday.

Brian Harman’s caddie who was with him every step of the way at the Open was Scott Tway, who is his longtime bagman.

Tway is from Oklahoma City and played college golf in Georgia long before taking up Harman’s bag over a decade ago.

He notably looped for Harman at the 2017 Wells Fargo Championship, the last tournament he won before The Open on the Wirral.

Tway was also the permanent caddie for Harman when he won his first PGA Tour title, the John Deer Classic in 2014.

But he was not there to toast the winning moment after he had to stop carrying Harman’s bag after the first round due to health reasons.

Scott Tway’s brother Bob Tway has been an esteemed golfer with eight PGA Tour titles. He is famous for defeating Greg Norman at the 1986 PGA Championship in Ohio with a hole-out bunker shot.

Tway has followed Harman through the ups-and-downs of life on Tour, but no moment will prove as memorable as walking up the 18th hole at Royal Liverpool knowing his player was going to win the Open.

As well as caddying for Harman and his brother Bob, Tway has also caddied for other experienced tour players including Chris Kirk and Scott Verplank.

And Tway caddies in his first Ryder Cup in 2023 after Harman secured one of six automatic qualifying berths to make Zach Johnson’s US team for the battle at the Marco Simone Golf Club near Rome.
