Two-time DP World Tour winner Eddie Pepperell has slammed the circuit for its ‘Ten Cards’ initiative, which will see ten players leave for the PGA Tour.

The top-ranked players on the Race to Dubai standings, who are not already exempt, will earn PGA Tour cards for 2024.

And the Englishman has blasted the decision, which he argues ‘makes no sense’.

Speaking on The Chipping Forecast podcast, Pepperell said: “I personally think it’s a disaster for the DP World Tour.

“I can’t think of any good business that tries to not retain its clients if you like. Just give the best ones away. That makes no sense to me.

“But from the players’ perspective, who all have ambitions to play on the biggest stage, which clearly now is the PGA Tour, it’s good for them.

“It doesn’t seem sustainable that the tour continues to operate successfully while giving away its best players.”

Introduced ahead of the 2023 season, the initiative means that even more of the DP World Tour’s players will be headed for America.

Ending after the DP World Tour Championships in Dubai, the Race to Dubai will promote the ten highest-ranked players.

While several of those play a combined schedule, Pepperell argued that he can’t get his head around the commercial aspect of the DP World Tour’s strategy.

The 32-year-old added: “There really is no incentive next year for these guys to play any tournaments on the DP World Tour other than their minimum events.

“I guess it’s in return from all the investment that the PGA Tour is making, and to be clear, that’s going to be well into the hundreds and hundreds of millions across a five-year period.

“So, the PGA Tour clearly want to see some return, and part of the return is getting some very good European players.”

Adrian Meronk, Ryan Fox, Victor Perez, Min Woo Lee and Robert MacIntyre all look set to benefit from the initiative.

Those players currently occupy spots on the rankings that would earn them a first PGA Tour card.
