There have been a number of changes to the PGA Tour schedule in recent years, but one thing that you can always rely on is a pre-Masters tilt around Texas – starting with the Houston Open.
You probably know it as the Shell Houston Open, with the oil company putting its name to the tournament from 1992 to 2017, but this year’s title sponsor is the Texas Children’s Hospital.
And there’s a strong field heading to Memorial Park as players look to fine-tune their games before making their way to Augusta. World No 1 Scottie Scheffler is signed up, as is defending champion Tony Finau and major champions Wyndham Clark, Jason Day, Gary Woodland, Padraig Harrington and Jimmy Walker, among others.

They will be competing for their share of 500 FedEx Cup points and, more importantly, $9.1 million purse.
Scheffler, of course, is the overwhelming favourite at an astonishing 5/2 in some places. While debate has ensued over whether his form is comparable to the levels of Tiger Woods levels on the course, the Texan is certainly starting to match the 15-time major winner when it comes to the bookmakers.
This week, his odds are the shortest for any player in a PGA Tour event in the last five years.
So can anyone stop Scheffler? Here’s everything you need to know about the Texas Children’s Houston Open 2024…

Here’s who the bookies fancy to shine this week…
Scottie Scheffler 3/1
Wyndham Clark 14/1
Tony Finau 18/1
Will Zalatoris 20/1
The bunkered bet
Wyndham Clark 14/1
Scheffler’s odds are the shortest we’ve seen for a PGA Tour event in some time and there is every chance the Texan makes it three wins in a row. Perhaps only Wyndham Clark can live with the world No.1 right now. After his victory at Pebble Beach, the US Open champion was runner-up to Scheffler at both the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The PLAYERS. He’ll fancy his chances of finally getting one over Scheffler at Memorial Park.
