It’s the start of the Scottish Golf Men’s Order of Merit this weekend, as 78 of Scotland’s best amateur golfers compete in the Craigmillar Park Open.

With the highest handicap in the field at an impressive 0.1, a very strong field is assembled for the prestigious Craigmillar Park Open this weekend, with four rounds set to take place in Edinburgh.

With World Amateur Golf Ranking points up for grabs, as well as a chance to take the lead in the Scottish Golf Order of Merit, the elite amateur field will be hoping to get their season off to a fast start.

The field is set to feature no less than ten players with a handicap index of plus-four or better. The top-40 and ties will make the Saturday night 36-hole cut, before they battle it out for the title over a further two rounds on Sunday.

The event has attracted some of the best in Scottish Golf over the years, with Marc Warren, Scott Jamieson and Craig Howie amongst the previous winners. Scottish stars such as Connor Syme and Daniel Young are amongst those who competed here in their amateur days.  In 2019, the last time the event was held, it was Joseph Bryce who was victorious. Perhaps the most famous winner though was the 1976 champion, a certain Sir Nick Faldo, who turned pro the very next day.

Play gets underway at 7am on Saturday morning, with home player James Stavert in the opening group. Spectators are encouraged to head along and watch some of the best players in the country compete for the prestigious championship.
