Banff Springs

The first thing you’ll notice about Banff Springs is its setting – it’s truly spectacular. Located in the heart of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, the views are fantastic and, fortunately, the course doesn’t disappoint either. Built in 1911, it was originally a nine-hole course laid out by Bill Thomson, a Scottish expatriate who learned his trade under Old Tom Morris in St Andrews. It was expanded to 18 holes by Donald Ross in 1924 and, in the time since, has matured into one of the most challenging and aesthetically stunning courses in the country. The short par-3 fourth is widely regarded as one of the best holes in Canada. Called “Devil’s Cauldron”, it plays over a glacial lake to a green that sits immediately below the dramatic Mount Rundle. It’s quite something.
