Legendary Sky Sports broadcaster Jeff Stelling has made clear his views on LIV Golf.

The 68-year-old was defending football referee Anthony Taylor on Twitter last night when he hit back at a Twitter troll about the relevance of his golf allegiances.

Stelling said: “Luke you support LIV Golf, so your view doesn’t really count.”

The Englishman has just finished his last season as the host of Sky’s Soccer Saturday, but it appears he won’t be spending his retirement following the breakaway golf league.

Stelling began reporting on football almost 50 years ago and is not shy from dishing out his opinions on air.

The Hartlepool fan and former club president has been a mainstay in sports journalism, but despite covering numerous sports, Stelling has never reported on golf.

However, as he took to social media, his retort gathered a mixture of opinions from golf fans.

Several Tweeters applauded Stelling for his quick-witted response, but one user replied, ‘What’s wrong with him supporting LIV Golf’.

Since its inception, the PGA Tour’s newest rival has completely divided opinions based on its funding and competitive aspects.

Now in its second full season, there is still uncertainty around LIV rebels being able to participate in the Ryder Cup, and how they will take part in future major championships.

Brooks Koepka was the first LIV golfer to lift a major championship when the American claimed his third PGA Championship at Oak Hill last month.

Behind Koepka in second was Scottie Scheffler, who won the Players Championship in March, and Stelling joked about his lead on Twitter too.

When Scheffler began to stride clear of the field on the final day at TPC Sawgrass, Stelling even admitted to watching Love Island over the PGA Tour.

He said: “The golf was over as Scheffler was winning by as far as (Leyton) Orient are winning League 2 !!!”
