Paige Spiranac has hit out at PGA Tour winner Nate Lashley, branding remarks he made about her opinions on slow play “sexist”.

Following pace of play issues during the final round of The Masters and RBC Heritage, tour-pro-turned-influencer Spiranac called on golf’s governing bodies to take action against golfers who take more than the allotted time to hit their shots.

“A golfer has 40 seconds to hit their shot and if they don’t do so in the allotted time, they should be penalised,” she said. “Slow play is unsportsmanlike and a form of cheating. I don’t understand how this is not fixed yet.

“It’s easy. Penalise them if they don’t hit in 40 seconds.”

That prompted this reply from world No.210 Lashley.

“I don’t like slow play at all but these courses are very difficult and there is a lot on the line,” said the 2019 Rocket Mortgage Classic champion

“If @PaigeSpiranac would have played professionally at a higher level she would understand but I don’t think most people are watching these videos to see what she has to say.”

Spiranac, suffice to say, was unimpressed.

“I said Nate’s tweet was sexist on my podcast which is now causing a stir on twitter lol,” she wrote.

“Yes, I use my sex appeal to my advantage but that doesn’t invalidate my opinion.

“I share a similar stance on slow play as many top pros as well as many in golf media but he only decided to call me out and belittle my achievements in the process.

“It’s not about me showing my cleavage and getting upset when I’m called out by it. I’m upfront about my brand. Not my fault people like boobs and golf. Both are wonderful.”
