Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre has muscled his way into contention for a third DP World Tour title after a blistering third round at the Magical Kenya Open.

The 25-year-old posted a second successive 65 to trail 54-hole leader Jorge Campillo by one going into Sunday’s final round.

MacIntyre carded six birdies and an eagle to sit in second place on 12-under and, afterwards, he admitted that a change in fortunes with his putter had been key.

“It’s something that’s been holding me back but the last few days I’m seeing it go in and I’m feeling really comfortable over putts right now,” he said. “For me, that’s the biggest thing, getting back feeling comfortable.

“I’m standing a wee bit different than I used to but it’s feeling good in the hands and, when it’s feeling good in the hands, it’s easier to judge speed. “I’ve been pretty good off the tee and my approach play has been the strength the last wee while and it’s good to see some putts go in. Overall, the game is in decent shape.”

MacIntyre appears to be rediscovering his best form at precisely the right time. He has slipped to No.94 on the OWGR, having been in 70th spot at the start of the year

He has also seen himself lose some ground in the race for a Ryder Cup spot, having slipped to 13th on the European Points List and 15th on the World Points List.

However, a win tomorrow – a second on the DP World Tour in the last seven months and a third overall – could change all that.

MacIntyre’s fellow Scots Craig Howie and Grant Forrest are 12th and 22nd respectively going into the final round.
