The Open: Early betting favourites 

Rory McIlroy is the bookies favourite to finally end his major drought and win the 151st Open Championship at Royal Liverpool.

Golf’s oldest major returns to Hoylake for the first time since McIlroy lifted the Claret Jug back in 2014.

The Northern Irishman has magical memories of the iconic Wirral links and will be desperate to make sure his major drought does not extend into its tenth year.

McIlroy is priced around 15/2 with most bookmakers, with world No.1 Scottie Scheffler also priced shortly at 9/1 as he chases his first major of the season.

Masters champion Jon Rahm is also priced at 9/1 as he bids for his third career major and first Claret Jug.

LIV golfers Brooks Koepka and Cameron Smith can both be backed at 14/1, with the latter defending the title he memorably won at St Andrews last year.

Elsewhere, Rickie Fowler is 20/1 after recently returning to the winners’ circle on the PGA Tour, with huge support expected for home favourite Tommy Fleetwood at 25/1.

Both players are hunting their first major championship at Hoylake.

Matt Fitzpatrick is hoping to add The Open title to his US Open crown and is being backed at 33/1, while his brother Alex is also in the field after making the field in superb style at Final Qualifying in West Lancashire.

Matthew Jordan, who has been a member at Hoylake since the age of seven, is priced at 125/1 after also securing his spot in the field at West Lancs.

Meanwhile former Champion Golfers Padraig Harrington and Louis Oosthuizen can be found at 150/1 and 75/1 respectively.
